May started off a little quiet, relative to the flurry of movement in April. In the last week we've seen a number of meaningful roster adjustments occur.
Marcellius Pulliam transfers from Miami. At 6-3 /230, the portal LB has good size. As a True Freshman last season, he saw limited action in 10 games. He has three seasons of eligibility remaining. Pulliam could possibly red-shirt this season, or at the very least provides good deep depth. Haladay and Turner are done after this year, so playing time is available moving forward. Hall and Matthews are more versatile and have a few years left. Pulliam could make it into the rotation next year as a R-So or Junior.
The future of the LB room was further boosted by the commitment of in-state Di'Mari Malone. While only listed at 6-0 /200, he fits the new-age LB mold with speed and coverage ability. Making him a potential 3-down LB.
MSU also added to the RB room in Jace Clarizio. Looking at his highlight tape and recent scouting report from Allen Triue of 24/7 sports gives us the below summary of the 6-0 /190 RB:
One-cut back
Good burst and acceleration. Shows vision.
Shows ability to run inside and outside. But not a bruiser. Better at making guys miss.
Lynch-Adams transferred in at RB with one year of eligibility. Carter has 2 years left, but could go pro. Behind them are two incoming freshman. MSU and Coach Smith got their "A" target at RB. Helping reload for the future. I expect them to add another RB in the class or hit the portal next year for depth.
Emmett Bork committed to MSU as well. A good-sized TE at 6-6 / 240 and one of the top-rated players in Wisconsin. Highlights show a lot of success running verticle routes. Has the size to do more as a blocker. Looking ahead, the TE room is pretty full going into next season with Velling, Parachec, Masunas, and Hook possibly returning. Bork can come in without pressure, redshirt, learn the system, add strength and blocking technique and be in line for a successful career at MSU.
Lejond Cavazos transfers over from UNC to add to the CB room. At 6-0 /200 he offers good size. And with 2 years of eligibility, Cavazos can step into the 2-deep in year 1, and fight for a starting role. He is coming off an injured season in 2023 but was competing for a starting role prior to hitting the portal. In 2022 he played in 11 games for the Tar Heels, starting 3. Prior to UNC, Cavazos was at Ohio State, where he played 11 games. The secondary continues to be a position of emphasis in the portal. Cavazos adds to it. This follows the commitment of Ed Wood from ASU. And the staff continues to look at other portal DB players.
Lastly, in the continued effort to backfill the DL, MSU landed Jalen Satchell who transferred from Old Dominion. A big body at 6-2 / 300, Satchell immediately figures to be in the 2-deep. And with 2 years of eligibility remaining, offers a bridge to next year. Jalen Satchell has played in 23 games over the last two seasons. Offering game experience and raising the floor of the DT room.
