ATH Bryson Williams commits to MSU, projected in a Deebo Samuel-type role

After an old-school recruiting process shrouded in mystery and no leaks, Bryson Williams committed to MSU on 7/11.

Williams is the 3rd OLSM player to commit this cycle, making 7 of the 15 commits in-state kids.

I love this get for a few reasons.

1. The staff continues to prioritize in-state (and regionally). We NEED to recruit Michigan well to have any success. Getting in-state kids creates a snowball effect with momentum. These kids know each other and want to play together. And OLSM can suddenly become a pipeline.

2. Williams fits precisely what they need. The staff isn't pulling a Tucker and swinging for 100 recruits; they are taking guys they like who fit the system and have upside. Williams is ranked 15th overall in Michigan and is a top-100 athlete in the country.

Role

While Williams' is classified as an athlete, he's projected to be an offensive weapon like Deebo Samuel. Williams is 6-2 /200, with track speed. He plays multiple positions for OLSM but is expected to play a mix of RB and slot WR, a player who will get touches from various positions.

Comp

Deebo might be a dream comp. The closest MSU comp I can think of is Keyshawn Martin, who excelled in the slot and on jet sweeps and reverses. That said, Williams is much bigger than Martin, and I expect Williams to get more carries directly out of the backfield. The point is, expect the coaches to get the ball in his hands.

2025 Recruiting Class Status

• MSU already has one true RB and two WRs in this class. With William's addition and his positional versatility, they can be extremely selective about taking another player at either position.

• MSU now has 7 top 21 in-state recruits, but none are in Michigan's top 7. But the seeds are planted to win more in-state kids in future classes AND those more highly ranked.

• MSU is still at the bottom of the Big10 class rankings, at 14 of 18. And 51st overall in the country. There is still time to boost this.

• I can see them adding maybe 5 more high school players, getting around 20. But I expect them to save some room for the portal.
