2023 Recap: Thorne leaves, Mel's fired, and a dumpster fire was set in the QB room. Kim wasn't the guy. Houser was drinking from a fire hose as a true freshman, a tough spot for anyone. And Leavitt's usage was mismanaged, resulting in him burning his redshirt and not contributing optimally
2024 (and Program) Game Changer: With the hire of Jonathan Smith, Aidan Chiles became QB target 1 (and only). Aidan transfers in as the immediate starter. In limited action at OSU in 2023 he passed for 300 yards and 4 TDs, to go along with 80 Rush Yards and 4 TDs. Dont let the numbers fool you, he is a walking highlight reel. The best part, he has 3 years of eligibility left. He's a true mobile QB who can sling it. Aidan has the opportunity to be a Spartan legend if he can lead the resurgence of the program, no pressure!
QB2: MSU hit a grand slam, landing Schuster as a grand-transfer backup. Schuster started four years at ND State with 9,000 passing yards and 63 TDs, with strong efficiency numbers in terms of Comp%, Av. Completion Yards, and QBR. He is the ultimate safety blanket, and someone the coaches will feel fine going to in a pinch, be in injury to Chiles, needing to give him a breather if he's shaky, etc.
Depth/Freshman: Behind Chiles and Schuster there are 2 Freshman. Ideally both redshirt. Milivojevic had an awesome SR year, completing 251-345 passes (72.8%) for 3,408 yards with 40 TD and 4 INT. Milivojevic also carried the ball 51 times for 331 yards and 9 TD.
HS Commits: Leo Hannan is a high-ranked 3* QB commit and was top of the board for the staff. He plays in the hardest conference in the country, so will be tested coming into college next year. He also has size at 6'4" with a big arm and mobility to be a dual-threat in college.
Assessment: We have our QB1 of the future, and a perfect QB2 bridge as we develop our 2 FR QBs. The returning 3 going into next year will give Hannan time to develop.
